Katie Stewart Anchondo was introduced to ChildBuilders by Janet Pozmantier in 2018. As a survivor and a mother now herself, she is proud to join ChildBuilders as part of the solution.
ChildBuilders understands the best way to combat child abuse is through prevention. We also know child abuse exists at every rung of the income ladder and victims can be difficult to identify, especially if there are not adults nearby equipped with listening ears. My personal experiences have shaped my perspective profoundly. I understand the profound impact that abuse can have on a child’s development and well-being. It’s not just about sympathy; it’s about empathy — about knowing firsthand the challenges faced by young souls enduring what no child should.
What I appreciate about ChildBuilders is its multi-pronged approach. The organization’s specialty is delivering prevention-minded curriculum to children, teachers, and caregivers. Countless testimonials from the trainings demonstrate how effective the message is. Ideally the training is teaching children and caregivers how to avoid abusers, but we find that the training also has given children the words to convey how they have already been victimized.
My service on the board is more than a commitment; it is a mission born from the depths of my own experiences. It is a testament to my belief that healing comes not only from personal recovery but also from collective action. Together, with ChildBuilders, we can build a future where every child grows up in a safe, loving environment — where their potential is nurtured, not shattered.
