ChildBuilders Presents Awards to Fort Bend ISD, Amigos Por La Vida Charter School, and School Counselor Royce Henley
[Houston, Texas] – At a lovely reception held Thursday, January 30, 2025, three outstanding school districts and individuals were honored by ChildBuilders, a local non-profit organization dedicated to breaking cycles of abuse, reducing trauma, and ensuring that every child can grow into a mentally healthy, productive citizen. The Distinguished School District Award was presented to Fort Bend ISD; the Outstanding School Award went to Amigos Por Vida Charter School; and the Inspiring Presenter Award recognized Royce Anne Henley, a school counselor at Fisher Elementary School in Pasadena ISD.
ChildBuilders selected the recipients in recognition of their outstanding dedication, commitment, resilience, and innovation implementing ChildBuilders’ programs, despite many challenges. Fort Bend ISD, Amigos Por Vida Charter School, and Ms. Henley of Pasadena ISD were honored for recognizing the critical importance of ensuring students are safe from abuse and prioritizing ChildBuilders’ program Stand Strong • Stay Safe.
In their acceptance speeches, each recipient related specific incidences where students receiving ChildBuilders programs were able to protect themselves from abuse and ask for help. Ms. Henley expressed her gratitude for ChildBuilders’ partnership:
“I am thankful to ChildBuilders for the Stand Strong • Stay Safe Curriculum [and] the resources counselors have to keep kids safe. And I am utterly grateful for ChildBuilders for developing…the words that children can use to stop their abuse.”
ChildBuilders’ Executive Director Amanda Siroosian noted, “Hearing our honorees’ powerful stories reaffirmed our mission and underscored the dedication of our team and school partners. We remain committed to ensuring the well-being of children across Houston for years to come.”
Founded over 50 years ago in Houston, ChildBuilders’ mission is to promote mental health and prevent abuse by empowering children, parents, and educators with tools to foster safe, supportive, and nurturing environments for children to thrive.
