Why do kids need to learn parenting skills? Prevention is key.
Most students leave high-school with no training or education in this area. In 2010, there were over 55,000 reports of child abuse/neglect in Houston alone. Ineffective and/or abusive parenting is a significant contributing factor to many social and health problems, including:
- substance abuse
- delinquency and crime
- poor academic performance
- teen pregnancy
- emotional disturbance (depression, irritability, aggression)
Without education, the cycle of dysfunctional parenting and abuse will only continue to plague our communities. Our Parenting Education program can prevent this.
ChildBuilders recognizes the importance of nurturing parenting and the lifelong impact that it has on a child’s ability to succeed. By giving students an opportunity to learn nurturing parenting skills, behaviors and attitudes – we are helping to make a difference for generations to come.
ChildBuilders’ Parenting Education program teaches students about healthy child development, as well as communication skills, non-violent conflict resolution and positive behavior management.
